Xie Wanze

Peking University, February 6, 2023: Recently, Xie Wanze, a researcher from Peking University’s School of Psychological and Cognitive Sciences and PKU-IDG/McGovern Institute for Brain Research, was among the recent members named for the 2022 New APS Rising Stars by the Association for Psychological Science (APS), affirming his contributions on the brain and cognitive development of infant and children.

APS is one of the most influential international academic organizations in the field of psychology. The APS Rising Star designation is presented to outstanding APS members in the earliest stages of their research career post-PhD. Drawing its name from an Observer editorial series that featured exemplars of the exciting work being done by the field’s newest researchers, this designation recognizes researchers whose innovative work had already advanced the field and signaled the great potential for their continued contributions. In 2022, about 200 young scholars from 18 countries were nominated and 48 were honored the title. In the past five years, a total of five scholars from the Chinese mainland have been named APS Rising Stars. 

Xie's main research direction is behavioral features and neural mechanisms in children’s social cognition, and the association of psychosocial adversity and social information processing in children. He has published more than ten academic papers in prestigious international journals in the field of psychology, neuroscience and medicine as the first/corresponding author. Furthermore, he is an editorial board member of Developmental Science, a professional core journal in psychology, and acts as a reviewer for more than 30 foreign and domestic journals.

Xie also heads projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and the Xiaomi Foundation and has taken part in major scientific projects funded by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Wellcome LEAP as a consultant or cooperator.
