Prof. Tang Ming awarded 2023 F.G. Houtemans Award

Professor Tang Ming

Peking University, February 15, 2023: Recently, the 2023 F.G. Houtermans Award has been awarded to Professor Tang Ming from the School of Earth and Space Sciences at Peking University, according to the European Association of Geochemistry (EAG).

Established by the EAG, the F.G. Houtermans Award is one of the most prestigious honors presented to young scientists in the international community, and is named after renowned physicist Friedrich Georg Houtermans. It recognizes exceptional contributions to geochemistry and is awarded annually. 

“Tang Ming is recognized for forging new paths, thinking in new ways about old problems, and having a significant impact on our understanding of Earth, particularly the evolution of continental crust. He is also a kind-hearted and patient mentor who inspires those around him,” according to the EAG.

Before joining Peking University in 2019, Professor Tang studied and worked at Nanjing University, the University of Maryland, and Rice University. He has been recognized for his work on the evolution of continents through geochemical means and has published numerous influential papers on early plate tectonics, orogeny, and magma redox. After returning to work in China, he was awarded the Gao Shan Young Scientist Award, the Xplorer Prize, and the Hisashi Kuno Award by the American Geophysical Union.

Professor Tang is also an awardee of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and the F.G. Houtermans Award further recognizes his contributions to the field of geochemistry and his dedication to teaching and mentoring.
