Letter from Conor P. Delaney
Peking University, May 9, 2023: Professor Gu Jin, the president of Peking University Shougang Hospital, has been selected as an Honorary Fellow of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS), according to a letter sent by Professor Conor P. Delaney, president of ASCRS.
The ASCRS is one of the most authoritative associations of colon and rectal surgery in the world, established in 1899. The Honorary Fellowship has been awarded since 1964 to recognize outstanding achievements and contributions to the field of colon and rectal surgery globally.

The selection process for Honorary Fellowship is extremely rigorous, with only up to six Honorary Fellows from outside the United States and Canada selected annually. They must be jointly nominated by ASCRS former president, current president, and president-elect and receive full approval (15 votes) of the executive committee.
There are currently only 75 ASCRS Honorary Fellows worldwide, and only six were approved this year, including Professor Gu. He has become the third ASCRS Honorary Fellow in the Chinese mainland and the only clinical medical expert selected from the mainland this year. The selection of Professor Gu Jin as an Honorary Fellow reflects his remarkable achievements and contributions to the field of colon and rectal surgery, and it is a great honor for him and the Chinese medical community.
