PKU Prof. Zhao Pengjun elected as Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences

Peking University, October 10, 2023: Zhao Pengjun, professor of Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School, was among the 47 new Academy of Social Sciences Fellows in the list recently released by the British Academy of Social Sciences.
Zhao Pengjun is currently a PKU Boya Distinguished Professor, a member of the Academic Committee of Peking University, dean of the School of Urban Planning and Design at PKU Shenzhen Graduate School, and professor of the College of Urban and Environmental Sciences at Peking University. He was one of the winners of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and has been accoladed as a leading figure of technological innovation by the Ministry of Natural Resources. He is also the incumbent vice chairperson of the Transport and Geography Commission of the International Geographical Union (IGU), and the Editor-in-Chief for Cities, an international SSCI journal. He has been invited as a guest professor in the Department of Land Economy at the University of Cambridge. He also holds the role as the director of a key laboratory in the Ministry of Natural Resources.
Zhao has dedicated himself to research in transport geography and the study of urban and rural planning. He has made significant achievements in developing the theory for the complex interactions between transport flows and urban society, big data simulation, modeling of urban systems, and urban planning. He was issued 15 patents and published more than 300 papers in notable journals including PNAS, NSR, and Science of China. The author of seven books in English and five in Chinese, he was selected as the highly cited Chinese researcher by Elsevier and was ranked as the world’s top 2% of scientists.
FAcSS (Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences) is the highest honor given by the British Academy of Social Sciences. It is the highest recognition of one’s academic achievement. Each year the new fellows are elected from prominent scholars all over the world who have made substantial contributions to the field of social sciences.
