He Guannan is a PKU Boya Young Fellow and a researcher with the National Engineering Laboratory for Big Data Analysis and Applications, and a joint appointment with the Institute of Carbon Neutrality. His main research interests lie in the optimization and analysis of low-carbon energy systems.

His team proposed analytical and optimization methodologies for transitions in multi-scale electrochemical energy systems based on data-mechanism fusion. They also developed a series of intelligent decision-making tools and discovered their applications in analysing uncertainty and risk management of low-carbon energy systems.

Additionally, He leads a Key Program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and has authored or co-authored 30 articles in top journals, including Nature Energy, Nature Communications, Joule, and Energy & Environmental Science. His previous accolades include a gold medal in the International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva as well as being recognised as a MIT Energy Fellow.

About the award

IISE, established in 1948, is a globally recognized organization dedicated to the support of the industrial and systems engineering profession. Each year, IISE selects ES Division members under the age of 35 as recipients of this award in recognition of their technical contribution to energy systems.
