[My CNY Story] Snowboarding into the New Year
Feb 06, 2025

Peking University, February 6, 2025: This year, I celebrated the Chinese New Year in a way I’ll never forget. Instead of the usual family gatherings, I spent the holiday with friends, sharing a cozy New Year’s dinner before heading out to snowboard into the new year. Snowboarding, often seen as a solitary sport where you push your limits against the silent, towering mountains and the rhythmic sound of your own breath, became something entirely different. It turned into a celebration of connection and shared joy.

As we carved through the slopes under a sky filled with stars, the biting cold of the -20°C night couldn’t dampen the warmth of our laughter. After a day of thrilling runs, we gathered around, sharing stories, singing songs, setting off fireworks and gazing at the endless expanse of stars above. It was one of those moments where time seemed to stand still, and the simplicity of being together made everything feel magical.

What made this New Year truly special wasn’t just the adventure of snowboarding or the stunning scenery—it was the people. From strangers to friends, we created memories that turned the solitude of the snow into something vibrant and alive. It reminded me that even in the quietest moments, the presence of good company can make all the difference. This wasn’t just a New Year’s celebration; it was a testament to the beauty of shared experiences and the joy of new beginnings. It’s a memory I’ll carry with me for years to come.
