PKU scientists selected for the Bayer China Academic Collaboration Award

Peking University, April 24, 2025: Several PKU Scientists have recently been declared winners of the Bayer China Academic Collaboration Award 2024, in recognition of their outstanding achievements in scientific research. The award categories included Bayer Endowed Chair, Bayer Investigator, Bayer Microfunding, and Bayer Postdoc.
Working closely with prestigious Chinese universities, this award aims to honor and fund distinguished scholars in life sciences, medical science and drug research. So far, more than 220 Chinese scientists have won relevant awards and grants.
This year, PKU scientists who have been awarded include Yan Chunhua, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and PKU professor, who won the Bayer Endowed Chair; 6 professors and assistant professors who won Bayer Investigator; and three young researchers who won Bayer Postdoc.
Dr. Anastasia Hager, Senior Vice President of Research and Development Bayer’s Pharmaceuticals Division, congratulated the scientists on their astounding achievements and reaffirmed Bayer’s commitment to continue cooperation with Chinese research institutions and universities.

Founded in 1863 in Germany, Bayer is now one of the largest pharmaceutical and biomedical companies in the world. It entered the Chinese market in as early as 1882, and now has formed long-term partnerships with Peking University and Tsinghua University, promoting collaboration between industry and academia in drug innovation.
Chen Xuemei, Dean of the School of Life Sciences at PKU and recipient of Bayer Endowed Chair 2022, commended the decade-long collaboration between the institution and Bayer, before expressing hope to deepen collaboration in critical areas such as oncology, cardiovascular and renal disease, immunology, etc.
“With unwavering resolve, we will advance breakthroughs in biomedicine to promote human health, delivering greater hope and well-being to patients worldwide.”
