PKU Collaborates with Elsevier to Publish World-leading Social Science Academic Journal

Peking University, Beijing, Oct.19, 2009: Peking University and Elsevier, the world-leading medical publisher signed an agreement on Oct 14th to partner on a world-leading social science academic journal in China.


Zhang Yuguo, CEO of Elsevier China noted, “China doesn’t have one world-leading academic journal whether in natural science or in social science. Meanwhile, the outstanding academic achievements originating in China require to be promoted by professional publishers to become more influential. Elsevier will make a world-leading academic journal in China in three to five years to transfer China’s knowledge abroad.”


From 2004 to 2008, more than 2,100 world-renowned professors from 58 countries attended the Beijing Forum, hosted by Peking University. Kofi Annan, former Secretary General of the UN and Ban Ki-moon, Secretary General of the UN, both speak highly of the forum. The Beijing Forum has been creating huge influence internationally. However, the forum could have reached farther if the papers and other materials of it are spread out as electric documents. This year, the academic materials from Beijing Forum will be made freely available worldwide through ScienceDirect, the biggest electric document platform in the world, which will definitely help to increase its influence.


Besides, this journal publishing partnership project will provide free dissertation writing training materials for Chinese researchers. Prof. Lin Jianhua, Executive Vice President of Peking University, said, “This partnership endeavors to bring in the most needed scientific information to China and bring out the most outstanding academic achievements in China, and will undoubtedly have a great positive impact on the improvement of the academic journals in China in the following five years.”
