He pointed out that the project differs from the present education mode in that it has established an advanced system in exploring Periodontology both theoretically and practically. In the attempt to reform the teaching mode for graduate students, this project has functioned well as a good starting point, and has introduced a new international teaching mode to China.

Professor Jin Lijian, deputy dean of HKU School of Dentistry, presented his speech on behalf of HKU. He congratulated the graduates on their achievement and progress in the past two years. By coincidence, both Cao and Jin quoted in their speech the famous motto of Steve Jobs: “Stay hungry; stay foolish.” Jin hoped that the students maintain their curiosity and desire for knowledge, and made more significant contributions to popularizing the knowledge of Periodontological in the future.

As representative of the graduates, Zheng Ying made her graduation speech both in Chinese and English, expressing their heartfelt gratitude for the hard work of the teachers.

Professor Xu Tao, dean of PKU School of Stomatology, approved of the graduates’ performance and the teachers’ diligence in this project. In his view, PKU School of Stomatology has contributed remarkably to Chinese Stomatological study as well as its education. This project is one of the related innovations, which offers a new mode of education, bringing to the field much novel knowledge and experience.

Honorary Dean Zhang Zhenkang held the opinion that this Periodontology project was the first experimental reform in education of the graduates, and it proved to be successful and practical. It would set up a good example for future learning and teaching of this subject. Not only did it vividly display the mode of modern education, but also was a representation of PKU innovative spirit.

Mr. Wang Xiaojun, director of the Conferment of Academic Degrees at PKU Health Science Center (PUHSC), thought highly of the accomplishments of this project, and issued the certificates to the graduates with congratulations.
