Alumni couple Li Ge and Zhao Ning donates 100 million RMB to Peking University

Peking University, June 15, 2018: On June 11, the donation ceremony of alumni couple Li Ge and Zhao Ning to Peking University and the ceremony to award Li Ge and Zhao Ning as honorary trustees of Peking University were held in College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering, Peking University.

For many years, WuXi AppTec, founded by Li Ge and Zhao Ning, has maintained good cooperation with Peking University and actively supported the development of teaching and academic research works. In 2009, WuXi PharmaTech Life Science and Chemistry Award was established in CCME. This time, Li and Zhao donated 100 million RMB to set up the Lige-Zhaoning Education Fund of Peking University as a reward for excellent scholars and scientists to promote their academic researches and help the university with teaching staff construction.

On the ceremony, Lin Jianhua, president of Peking University, praised Li Ge and Zhao Ning for creatively combining medical science, business and industry in the process of entrepreneurship. Their achievements highlighted Peking University in talent cultivation. Lin said that it is well acknowledged that Peking University has been at the forefront of the world in many fields, but there is still an arduous way to go. He pointed out that the development of the university should always be closely integrated with the development of the country in order to enhance the core competitiveness. Moreover, Peking University will continue to strengthen the cooperation with local governments, businesses and industries in fields of education and sciences.

Li Ge stated that the donation is an expression of gratitude to Peking University. He was grateful for the opportunity to study here. And thanks to the Peking University’s “free thoughts, open minds” spirit, he could have his own judgement and confidence to challenge authorities. Zhao Ning said that she and Li Ge always paid attention to the development of their alma mater. They look forward to the fund helping the university to cultivate generations of talents and supporting the vigorous development of Chinese bioscience.

After the donation ceremony, Lin Jianhua conferred bronze medals of honorary director of Peking University to Li Ge and Zhao Ning. Vice President Wang Bo presented them with the Peking University Outstanding Education Contribution Award.
