PKU Students’ “Tom’s Odd Dreamworld” Awarded in 2009 Annual Conference of China e-Game Industry

Peking University, Beijing, Dec. 3, 2009: On the afternoon of December 1, the 2009 Annual Conference of China e-Game Industry was held at the Great Hall of the People, announcing a series of awards to e-game companies and individuals. The game “Tom’s Odd Dreamworld”, produced by Zhu Qiming, Lu Yungeng, Lai Weidan, and Gong Yinjie from Department of Digital Art and Design at School of Software and Microelectronics of Peking University (PKU), was awarded “2009 Excellent Animation & e-Game Works by College Students”. In the mean time, PKU School of Software and Microelectronics was awarded “2009 Advanced Animation & e-game Training Unit of China e-Game Industry (CGI)”


This annual conference is the highest level meeting of CGI and also the landmark event. It has covered a full range of games, animation cartoons, and personnel training, with high authority and representativeness in this field. The 2009 Annual Conference is the seventh one.


“Tom’s Odd Dream World” was finished in 10 weeks during the period of the 2009 International Computer Game Design Competition Dare to be Digital grand final by the 4 students. Tom is a boy who is trapped in his own dreams. In order to escape into the waking world, Tom must explore and manipulate his dreams while avoiding the mysterious monster. The game is gorgeous, innovative, and commercial, which has attracted attentions from many internationally well-known publishers.

In addition to “Tom’s Odd Dream World”, the 4 students have also made another game “Bumper Halloween” which has been awarded both in Independent Games Festival China 2009 and 4th China (Beijing) International Student Animation Festival.
