Peking University, July 4, 2019: On July 2, Peking University's 2019 Graduation Ceremony for Undergraduates was held at Peking University Gymnasium, marking a milestone in the learning journey of 3,621 undergraduates who were awarded their bachelor's degrees.

Prior to the commencement ceremony, spectacular performances were put on the stage, creating a joyful atmosphere.
Ever since their first encounter with Peking University on September 11, 2015, graduates from the Class of 2019 have walked their journey for 1390 days before bidding farewell to their undergraduate studies on July 2, 2019. They witnessed Peking University's significant milestones and China’s major events along the way.
Qiu Shuiping, chairperson of Peking University Council delivered a speech and announced a batch of outstanding graduates who would receive commendation awards. He awarded 523 undergraduate students the honorary title of “Excellent Graduates of Peking University in 2019”, and recommended 178 undergraduates to receive the title of “Outstanding Graduates of Beijing’s Higher Institutions”.
Qiu Shuiping expressed his warm congratulations to the students who have completed their undergraduate studies and extended his heartfelt gratitude to all the teachers, family members and all the people who offered their support and care to Peking University. He demonstrated his adoration for the graduates, stating that they are all adorable, trustworthy, valuable and competent. Nearing the end of the ceremony, Qiu said he had faith in the graduates, because for more than a century, “patriotism, progress, democracy, science” has always been the belief of PKUers. He hopes that they would continue to unite China, and to contribute to the community for people’s well-being and the prosperity of the entire nation.

In his rousing speech given at the graduation ceremony, Hao Ping, president of Peking University, emphasized the importance of being an aspiring person. To possess this quality, we must be kind and have an unwavering ambition of serving the country. We need to do our best in supporting world peace and development, broadening our international vision, and advocating openness, tolerance, exchange and cooperation, and cultivating the ability to solve common problems in human society.
Hao Ping
Zhang Dongjie, graduate representative from Yuanpei College, shared his spiritual journey as travelled down to the rural area of Tianshan to participate in a charity event organized by Loving Heart Society. That was only one out of all the volunteer works he has participated throughout his four years at Peking University. To him, volunteering is an indispensable part of his life. Standing in front of the rest of his peers, he revealed that he is going to travel to a town in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region to realize his dreams of helping more people in need. He said that Peking University has given him the determination and strength to conquer obstacles along his journey of achieving his dreams.
Zhang Dongjie
Professor Fang Fang, teacher representative and the dean of the School of Psychology and Cognitive Science, gave a speech that offered his insights through sharing his experiences in studying, teaching, researching and participating in social services at Peking University. The main message of his speech is to maintain a childlike heart no matter where you end up in the future.

Xu Zhao, alumni representative graduated from the School of Earth and Space Sciences, Peking University, delivered a speech to the graduates. He reminisced about his time spent at Peking University and sent out an important message to the new graduates: always remain true and sincere to your home and country, always sustain the courage of tackling challenges, always possess tenacity when it comes to pursuing goals, and always maintain inner peace and calm. Although ordinary people make up the majority of the world, it should not stop us from striving to be extraordinary.

The graduation ceremony finally wrapped up, with all the graduates waving the national flag and singing the popular campus song My Love for Yanyuan Garden.
