News & Events | About PKU News | Contact | Site Search Peking University, Nov. 12, 2012: Sports brought the students and the presidents of three universities together on a special occasion: Peking University (PKU), National Taiwan University (NTU) and the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). It was the 6th students’ friendly sports competition between the three universities, held at National Taiwan University Sports Center from October 30 to November 4. More than 100 students participated in three sports, representing their universities. PKU students claimed the championship in the men’s basketball game, the second place in the badminton team competition, and the third place in the tennis team competition. Zhou Qifeng, President of PKU, Dr. Si-Chen Lee, President of NTU, and Professor Joseph J.Y. Sung, President of CUHK attended the closing ceremony on the evening of November 3 and presented trophies to the student representatives. PKU President Zhou Qifeng presented trophies to basketball student players in closing ceremony. PKU came first in men's basketball game. In his speech during the ceremony, President Zhou Qifeng spoke highly of the event. He pointed out that the youth were the hope of our nation and students from the three universities would become the core force in the social development of China. “PKU has always been valuing the communication between the youth of Mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. The better communication, understanding and friendship they have, the more competitive they will be in the future.” During the period of the sports competition, teachers and scholars from the three universities also attended an academic exchange activity at NTU and shared their views about various topics such as PE courses, the organization and promotion of sports event and PE research. The students’ friendly sports competition was initiated by CUHK in 1995, and afterwards the three universities took turns to host the event: 1995, CUHK; 1997, PKU; 1999, NTU; 2004, CUHK; 2009, PKU and 2012, NTU. Nowadays, after 17 years, this sports event becomes an important platform for communication and cooperation between the three top universities in China and plays an increasingly important role in promoting friendship and social development between Mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
