University of Ottawa delegation visits Peking University, enhances academic cooperation

Peking University October 14, 2024: Jacques Frémont, President of the University of Ottawa, led a delegation to visit Peking University. The group was warmly welcomed by Peking University President Gong Qihuang, who was accompanied by Ning Qi, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice President of Peking University.
During the meeting, President Gong emphasized the significance of the visit for advancing higher education collaboration between China and Canada. He expressed a desire to enhance mutual understanding between Chinese and Canadian students, strengthen academic exchanges, and pursue substantive cooperation in key areas such as basic sciences and other advantageous disciplines. Gong also highlighted the importance of fostering faculty and student exchanges, promoting joint academic activities, and creating opportunities for mutual visits between the two universities.

President Frémont expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and reinforced the importance of uninterrupted academic exchange between Canada and China. He expressed optimism about deepening collaboration, particularly in fields such as law, engineering, and social sciences. Frémont also stressed the value of fostering teacher exchanges and joint student training, aiming to build a long-term and stable cooperative relationship between the two institutions.
Following the meeting, scholars from both universities engaged in discussions, exploring potential collaborations in academic development and shared initiatives.
