The competition consists of two rounds. Sixteen finalists competed in the first round, with the top ten advancing to the second round where they vied for the top three positions.
The stage featured performances showcasing the contestants’ diverse backgrounds, including a rendition of famous K-pop ballad “Stay With Me” by South Korean duo skrrr and a Broadway-esque performance of “Theme From New York” by Ozzy Tang from the US.
Adding to the excitement was The Fleets, a powerhouse band representing South Africa, Brazil, and the United Kingdom. Their high-energy renditions of "Crazy" and "I Was Made for Loving You" showcased their remarkable vocal and instrumental abilities, igniting the crowd with their electrifying stage presence.
The champion of the competition, Lim Pei Xuan from Malaysia, captivated the audience and judges with her exceptional vocal prowess. Her renditions of Chinese ballads "The Same Moonlight" and "I Miss You So Much" were nothing short of breathtaking, showcasing her impeccable control, soaring high notes, and deeply emotive delivery.
Yasin Safa from Iran, the first runner-up, impressed the audience with his self-accompanied piano performances of "Lonely" and "Break My Heart Again". His unique vocal tone drew the audience in, establishing a deep and memorable connection through his music. The second runner-up, Koh Jia Sheng from Malaysia, also stood out with interpretations of Chinese pop songs "Don’t Be Friends Later" and "Normal Friends." His heartfelt delivery and interactive performance left a lasting impression.
One of the esteemed judges Zhu Tao offered her insights, praising the contestants’ courage and talent while encouraging them to embrace the music fully. She highlighted the importance of connecting emotionally with the audience and to use music as a bridge to share PKU’s unique stories with the world. She specifically commended Lim Pei Xuan for her exceptional emotional depth and recognized her as the most polished performer of the evening.
The event concluded with a stunning duet by judges Shen Xuanhao and Yang Jiachen, whose flawless rendition of Adele’s "All I Ask" brought the event to a stirring finale.
The Top Ten International Students Singing Competition celebrated the remarkable talents of its participants, bringing together diverse voices and cultures on one stage. The event created a bridge of connection and understanding, reflecting PKU’s commitment to fostering global friendship and collaboration.
