IAEA Director General Visits Peking University

Peking University, April 15, 2025: Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), visited Peking University (PKU) on April 10, in an effort to deepen cooperation on scientific research, energy transition and education. Grossi was received by PKU President Gong Qihuang and Vice President Fang Fang at Linhuxuan.

Gong Qihuang stated PKU’s important role as a top Chinese university in promoting international collaboration and high-quality education in key scientific fields, and expressed hopes for deeper cooperation in nuclear safety, energy innovation, and education program, as a contribution to sustainable development and global peace.

Praising PKU’s achievements in basic research and education, Grossi affirmed IAEA’s readiness to expand partnership with the school and encouraged its scholars to participate in the agency’s global initiatives, thereby jointly promoting global nuclear energy governance and sustainable development.

Following the meeting, Grossi delivered a lecture at the School of International Studies, detailing IAEA’s mission in global nuclear governance and its development plan.

Grossi also visited the School of Physics, where he toured the superconducting radio frequency laboratories and learned about cutting-edge research achievements.

The visit reflects growing collaboration between China’s top academic institutions and international organizations in addressing global energy and sustainability challenges.
