Beijing Forum Global at Cambridge Explores State Making and Remaking

Peking University, May 7, 2026: Co-organized by Peking University (PKU) and the University of Cambridge, the Beijing Forum Global was held in late April at St Edmund's College, University of Cambridge. The forum, themed "State Making and Remaking", underlined the high-level cooperation between the two universities and the relevance of the Beijing Forum as a platform for international academic dialogue.

At the opening ceremony, Jiang Guohua, vice chair of PKU Council, delivered a speech expressing gratitude to the host and noting this milestone in academic collaboration between the East and the West, in alignment with the Beijing Forum's overarching theme, "The Harmony of Civilizations and Prosperity for All."

John Aston, pro vice-chancellor for research at the University of Cambridge, also emphasized the value of this collaboration, noting that universities have a significant responsibility in advancing global innovation and public governance, and that innovation should be more inclusive and universally beneficial.

Yoosuk Kim, president of the Chey Institute for Advanced Studies, said that the Institute has consistently lent support to the Beijing Forum. He expressed hope that the Beijing Forum can continue to be a prestigious international academic platform, bringing together experts and scholars from diverse countries and disciplines to promote cross-civilizational exchange and deepen global academic collaboration.


The opening ceremony

The Beijing Forum, an international academic event held annually since 2004, is co-sponsored by Peking University, Beijing Municipal Education Commission, and the Chey Institute for Advanced Studies. Its overseas arm, the Beijing Forum Global, was launched in 2016 and has been held in Islamabad, Davos, Chicago, Seoul, Tokyo, Singapore and beyond. The forum facilitates cross-national, cross-disciplinary and cross-civilizational dialogue on topics such as people-to-people exchange, cultural heritage, global development, etc.
