Peking University, October 21, 2021:
In the run-up to the 2022 Winter Olympic Games and Paralympic Games in
Beijing, from 5 October to 31 December, the Beijing Organizing Committee
will host 10 international matches, 3 international training weeks and 2
domestic test events at 8 stadiums in the Beijing, Yanqing and
Zhangjiakou competition zones.
Ensuring comprehensive health monitoring during the test matches is a
vital part of the logistical work. As the only designated medical care
center covering the above 3 competition zones, Peking University (PKU)
Third Hospital has meticulously combined healthcare services with
pandemic control protocol, aiming to improve its healthcare system and
provide high-quality services and support for the Games.
According to the Committee’s arrangements, PKU Third Hospital serves as
the designated hospital for the 3 sporting events held in the National
Indoor Stadium, National Speed Skating Oval and National Aquatics
Center. Besides providing athletes with quality health care, it will
cater to treatment demands of stadium staff and volunteers as well. PKU
Third Hospital Yanqing Branch and PKU Third Hospital Chongli Branch also
oversees the medical work of several sporting events, including the
Alpine skiing test match and International Ski Federation (FIS)
Freestyle Ski World Cup.
PKU Third Hospital has also formed a team with approximately 40 staff
spanning 20 medical departments. To support more than 100 health
professionals from PKU Third Hospital Yanqing Branch, it has also sent
around 20 experts from its specialist departments and experienced first
aid members over.
Staff from PKU Third Hospital medical team in training
Compared to the previous Winter Games, health care is centered on
pandemic control this time round. PKU Third Hospital has formed an
expert team consisting of medical staff with pandemic-control experience
and infection-control specialists. With characteristics of different
regions in mind, they have adopted several measures to improve treatment
efficiency while reducing the risk of exposure for medical staff.
PKU Third Hospital implementing pandemic protocol
To ensure that the other two branches adopt comparable pandemic control
measures, the expert team has organized emergency exercises and staff
training. At the same time, the team has compiled and circulated
pandemic control instructions based on the features of Delta variant,
with reference to relevant materials of the Winter Games and pandemic
control requirements.
