2021 PHBS-CJBS Global Pitch Competition Finals held

Peking University, November 27, 2021:  On November 12, the 2021 Peking University HSBC Business School (PHBS)-Cambridge Judge Business School (CJBS) Global Pitch Competition finals were held in Shenzhen. During the event, the PHBS Advisory Committee on Start-up and Venture Capital was officially established. The event attracted more than 3000 online and offline participants.

The venue of the final competition

The competition showcases a global collection of about 150 entrepreneurship projects in fields such as medicine and agriculture. There are European, North American, and Chinese divisions, from which 8 teams in the Chinese division and 2 teams from the international divisions entered the final competition.

In his speech, Hai Wen, dean of PHBS , said PHBS holds a historical purpose to help the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The newly-established PHBS Advisory Committee on Start-up and Venture Capital will further strengthen connections and cooperation with various enterprises, institutions, and scholars.

Stelios Kavadias, vice dean of CJBS , recounted the original intention and beliefs of the PHBS-CJBS Global Pitch Competition in his video speech. He sincerely congratulated the finalists and expressed gratitude towards his PHBS colleagues. Despite not being able to participate in person, Kavadias emphasized the cooperative efforts of both schools in preparation for the competition. These efforts demonstrated the important and unique position Shenzhen and Cambridge have in the economic environment.

Roadshows were held for each participating project. Magic Weaver’s “3D Body Digitization and Measuring” won first prize. BionicM’s  “AIoT-based Electronic Prosthetic Robot” project and QYSEA’s  “Underwater Robot and AI Solutions” project won second prize. CIMC’s “R&D and Industrialization of Intelligent Mobile Cold Storage” project, Enhanced Robotics’ s “Consumer-Grade Intelligent Exoskeleton” project, Precision Medicare’s  “Noninvasive Detection of Liver Fibrosis” project, Shenzhen AIT Precision Technology Co.’s “Optical Active Alignment System” project, and Mimicrete’s “Self-healing Concrete” project won third prize. Lilu’s “Breast Pumping Massage Bra” won the Outstanding Startup Award.

During the event, the PHBS Advisory Committee on Start-up and Venture Capital was officially established. Hai Wen serves as honorary chairman of the Committee, and Wei (Wayne) Chen, director of Center of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at PHBS, serves as the chairman of the Committee.

At the end of the event, the PHBS-CJBS Forum was held. Speeches were given by various famous investors and entrepreneurs. Wei Chen , chairman of Shenzhen Oriental Fortune Capital, shared his investment experience and encouraged listeners to trust logic and the miracle of innovation. Victor Qiang Wang , co-founder of ZhenFund, shared how he chooses entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial projects. He emphasized that truly successful entrepreneurs are visionary pioneers who are not easily influenced.

Lianming Bo , CEO of Appotronics Co., pointed out the uniqueness of Shenzhen scientific and technological innovation enterprises. Wu Shichun  of Meihua Venture Capital described that the road of entrepreneurship is full of challenges and uncertainty, but can also be glorious as well. In this era of new technology entrepreneurship, Wu believes entrepreneurs should seize the opportunities that are arising.

Mao Daqing, founder of Youke Workshop, gave a speech that covered three main aspects: “China’s opportunities and challenges”, “science and technology trends and entrepreneurial opportunities”, and “why should we start a business?”. Mao believes entrepreneurship is a practice, as well as an investment in oneself.
