Peking University, January 21, 2022: The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympics are landmark events at an important historical node in China. In January 2022, just over 20 days before the opening of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, the “New Generation on Ice, Together for a Shared Future" Peking University Winter Olympics Volunteer Training Camp was launched.
At the opening ceremony
On the morning of 11 January, the opening ceremony of the camp was held in the auditorium of Peking University Hall. Leaders of the PKU Communist Youth League Committee, officials from the Volunteer Department of the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee, and Peking University Winter Olympics volunteers attended the ceremony.

Officers and teachers delivered rousing speeches to the volunteers. In his speech, Zhang Xiufeng, deputy director of the Volunteer Department of the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee, expressed his affirmation of Peking University's preparatory work for the Olympics, and pledged to support Peking University and its volunteers in completing various tasks. Dong Zhiyong, assistant to the President and dean of general affairs of Peking University, announced that Peking University will be holding related lectures, meetings with Olympic champions, ice and snow sports activities and more in the days before volunteer dispatchment. Hu Guodong, secretary of the PKU Communist Youth League Committee, announced the official opening of the Peking University Winter Olympics Volunteer Training Camp. Ren Wei, director of the Recruitment and Management Office of the Volunteer Department of the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee, then gave a lecture entitled “Doing Volunteer Service and Showcasing the Wonders of the Winter Olympics”, where he encouraged volunteers to carry themselves with pride and give their best in training and at work.

After the ceremony, Chang Chen from Guanghua School of Management said that through listening to the speeches of leaders and teachers, she has understood her mission and responsibility as a volunteer, and will work hard to live up to expectations and showcase the capabilities of the “ice generation”.
Wang Linxi, a student from Yuanpei College, said, “This is my first time volunteering for the Olympic Games, and I feel very excited and honoured. After listening to the teachers' sharings, I’ve learnt how significant the volunteer work is. While it may present challenges or difficulties, my fellow volunteers and I will do our best to complete the tasks given to us by the Party and the country.”
Zhao Linnan from College of Urban and Environmental Studies said, “The success of the Winter Olympics will play a significant role in boosting China's development and image. I know that the volunteers carry a sizeable burden, as we will not only represent the students of Peking University, but also represent the image of Chinese youth. In this training camp and the subsequent volunteer work, I will definitely hold myself to strict standards…and also urge myself stay steadfast in training, hone my skills, and do my best to complete the volunteer service.”

After the camp, the Winter Olympics volunteers and PKU working group members will be dispatched to various venues and service areas of the Winter Olympics ensure its smooth operation and demonstrate the capabilities of PKUers and Chinese youth to the world.
