Jan 26, 2022
Peking University, January 26, 2022: On January 20, on the occasion of the 15-day countdown to the Beijing Winter Olympics, Peking University’s volunteers officially set off for the 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The ceremony was held at PKU Khoo Teck Puat Gymnasium. This winter season, our volunteers will burn bright as a distinct light in the snow with a fire special to PKU youth.

A chorus of voices ignite youthful passions in a winter wonderland. A young new generation writes their story.

PKU Youth League Committee Secretary Hu Guodong gave an overview of PKU’s involvement in the Winter Olympics. All 630 volunteers - 57 Games volunteers, 15 Opening Ceremony performers and 902 medical – will carry the honor and heavy responsibilities during the Winter Olympics.

From 2008 to 2022, from the Summer Games to the Winter Games, the Olympic passion lives on in PKU. Olympic champion representative Ding Ning, along with PKU volunteer representatives of the 2008 Olympics and the 2022 Olympics spoke about their Olympic dreams.

Then the volunteers pledged to give their all to help in the Games and to complete their duties to ensure a simple, safe but exciting Winter Olympic Games.

After the pledge ceremony, Teng Shengping, director of the Volunteer Department of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Olympics and Paralympic Winter Games, recognised PKU’s continued involvement in multiple nationwide volunteer events. She also expressed her hope and wish that every volunteer would be able to complete their duties and give glory to the country while adding colour to the Olympics in their own way.

In the same way that the youth shine their light on the Games, the Games also shines its light on the youth of these volunteers. PKU Council Chair Qiu Shuiping encouraged all PKU volunteers to carry on PKU’s legacy, continue to write the Olympic dream and show the world the manner of PKU youth.

In a last sing-along of Ode to the Motherland, the setting off ceremony drew to a close, but the journey of the volunteers officially begins!
