Peking University, February 27, 2021: On 24th February, the signing ceremony for the launch of the “Xiaomi Boya Young Scholars” programme was held in Peking University. The programme, funded by Beijing Xiaomi Foundation, encourages and supports youth in scientific research and teaching, promoting the establishment of a young teaching team and supporting China’s technological development. This is the second time that the Xiaomi Foundation has supported PKU in talent development programmes since the 2020 establishment of the Xiaomi Scholarship.

PKU Vice President Wang Bo appreciated Xiaomi for continuously supporting the development of PKU talents. He emphasized PKU’s prioritization of people development amidst the ever-changing environment of Chinese society and the higher education landscape. Given Xiaomi’s equal emphasis on talent development, Wang Bo noted the alignment of both parties, and sees Xiaomi’s donation as a show of the company’s deep understanding of talent training. He hopes that both parties will have more opportunities for collaboration in the future to contribute meaningfully to society.

Liu De, Co-Founder and Senior Vice President of Xiaomi, introduced Xiaomi Group and Xiaomi Foundation’s history and future plans. Having once been a teacher, Liu De understands that youth are an active group in school, and support should be given to them. Liu De mentioned that Xiaomi started the fund to support more scientific researchers from different schools. He also expressed Xiaomi’s desire for more exchanges with schools like PKU, and further support the development of PKU.

Fang Fang, Head of the PKU Office of Human Resources introduced PKU’s talent team. He emphasized that PKU will strictly follow protocol in choosing the scholars, ensuring that the funds from the foundation are used wisely. He believes that with Xiaomi’s support, PKU will be able to build a team of leaders in the technological field, training more innovative talents and technological leaders.

Young teacher representative and assistant professor of PKU’s College of Future Technology Han Mengdi expressed that he was touched by Xiaomi’s support, which allowed young scientists to do scientific research wholeheartedly and continue their pursuit of excellence. He hopes that young scientists will continue to strive for excellence, pushing themselves to become international leaders in their fields, using their research results to contribute back to society.

Many representatives of Xiaomi who are PKU alumni also shared their schooling experience in PKU and their working life in Xiaomi, expressing their hope that together, PKU and Xiaomi will create a better future for the world.
