Deng Guangming’s Collected Books Donation and 115th Birthday Ceremony held

Peking University, March 23, 2022: On March 16, Deng Guangming’s Collected Books Donation and his 115th Birthday Ceremony was held in the Chinese Rare Books Library of Peking University Library. PKU President Hao Ping, Vice President Sun Qingwei, Secretary-General of PKU Education Foundation Li Yuning and PKU Library Director Chen Jianlong attended the ceremony. The daughters of Mr. Deng Guangming, Ms. Deng Keyun and Professor Deng Xiaonan attended the event. The donation ceremony was hosted by deputy director of PKU Library Bie Liqian.
In his speech, Library Director Chen Jianlong thanked Ms. Deng Keyun and Professor Deng Xiaonan for their generous donation which will benefit numerous students. He said that Mr. Deng Guangming’s collection has been the largest collection of ancient books PKU Library had ever received in the last 10 years. As an act of appreciation, Director Chen announced that the Library will be setting up a special collection for Mr. Deng’s books. This will allow these books to play a more important role in the teaching and scientific research in the field of Chinese history especially the history of Song Dynasty, which was Mr Deng’s field of expertise. Mr. Deng Guangming’s talent, knowledge, insight and achievements will continue to inspire generations of PKU students and librarians to work harder and achieve their goals.
Professor Deng Xiaonan explains that her father had intricate ties with PKU Library. In commemoration of his 115th birthday, she decided to donate her father’s lifelong collections to Peking University. She also hoped that this could continue his father’s affinity with the Library, and these books could pass down the legacy of his academic spirit to future generations of students.
On behalf of Peking University, President Hao Ping expressed his gratitude to Ms. Deng Keyun, Professor Deng Xiaonan and their family for their generosity. He pointed out that Mr. Deng’s donation carries great significance and is an important contribution to the Library.
