Peking University, April 28, 2022: Peking University Professor Jia Zhongwei’s team’s excellent contribution to the anti-COVID-19 efforts during the Beijing Winter Olympic Games, was recently recognized by Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in a letter of thanks to Peking University (PKU).
Professor Jia and his colleagues from the Department of Global Health, PKU School of Public Health, undertook the project called “Research on the Assessment and Prevention Technology of the Risks Exerted on the Beijing Winter Olympics by the Pandemic”. As a key special project of “High-tech Winter Olympics” of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the team successfully completed various research tasks, and the research results were recognized by the International Winter Olympic Committee and officially included in the COVID-19 prevention and control plan of the Beijing Winter Olympics, which provided an important scientific basis for the successful holding of the Winter Olympics under the pandemic situation.
In the future, the Global Health Department will summarize the experience of the technical support in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic during the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games, continue to build a monitoring and forecasting platform for public health safety, transform the relevant achievements into the routine monitoring and forecasting work for global infectious diseases, as well as provide scientific and technological hardcore power for the protection of public health in China and the rest of globe.
