Peking University, June 14, 2022: Recently, the winners of the inaugural Chinese Chemical Society (CCS) Life Chemistry Award were announced. Academician Zhang Lihe from Peking University School of Pharmaceutical Sciences was awarded the CCS Life Chemistry Achievement Award while Professor Yi Chengqi from PKU School of Life Sciences was awarded the CCS Biochemistry Youth Innovation Award.
The Life Chemistry Award recognizes outstanding achievements in pioneering fields related to the intersection of chemistry and life sciences.
The selection of the inaugural CCS Life Chemistry Award started on 1 January 2022. According to the CCS Life Chemistry Award Regulations, the awardees will need to be first nominated by the members of the professional committee, then evaluated by the award committee by a secret ballot election, and finally, approved by the CCS. The final list of awardees are as follows:

Biography of Zhang Lihe
Prof Zhang Lihe
Zhang Lihe is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) , a professor from PKU School of Pharmaceutical Sciences as well as the honorary director of the Academic Committee of the State Key Laboratory of Natural and Biomimetic Drugs.
Zhang Lihe has made outstanding achievements in nucleic acid chemistry and nucleic acid-targeted drug research. He is a pioneer and leader in the discipline of chemical biology in China and his research focus is on nucleic acid chemistry as well as anti-tumour and anti-viral drugs.
He has obtained his Honorary Doctorate from Hoshi University in Japan in 1990 and was part of the Edgar-Snow Professorship in University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1992. Among his long list of achievements, he was notably awarded the Ho Leung Ho Lee Technology Improvement Award in 1999, the Millennium Pharmaceutical Scientists Award from International Pharmaceutical Federation in 2000 and the National Natural Science Award (second class) twice respectively in 2004 and 2014.
