Class of 1980 visits ‘Life at PKU’ exhibition
Oct 04, 2024
Peking University October 4, 2024: From September 20th to 25th, the ‘Life at PKU’ exhibition (branch of Museum of PKU History) organized a special session to welcome the class of 1980. Over 200 alumni visited the exhibition to reminisce their youth days at PKU.

The exhibition was located at the basement of Dormitory Building No. 28. It was part of the thematic exhibition launched by the school to record the various developments of campus life at PKU.

Using a combination of physical materials, graphic images, and scene restoration, as well as a mix of traditional and modern exhibition methods, the exhibition showed the learning, exploration and growth experiences of PKU students from five aspects: learning, eating, housing, transportation, and entertainment.

Having experienced the early stages of reform and opening up, the class of 1980 not only witnessed the major changes in Chinese society, but also personally experienced the construction of the PKU campus. In the exhibition hall, the alumni carefully examined each exhibit and reminisced about the past together.

At the corner of the second exhibition hall, it featured a restored dormitory scene from the 1980s. When the school renovated the student dormitory building before the 120th school anniversary, it specially preserved some bricks, tiles, building signs and dormitory doors of the old dormitory building for commemorative purposes. The restored dormitory hence reflected the school’s longing for students, as well as the love and attachment that graduates have for the school.

The Museum of PKU History will continue to build a platform for the alumni to connect with the school, through expanding the exhibition spaces and increasing exhibits to showcase the changes in campus life over the years.
