Renowned Physicist Prof. Zhao Kaihua Passes Away at Age 95

Peking University, November 20, 2024: Renowned Chinese physicist and esteemed educator, Prof. Zhao Kaihua, a senior professor at the PKU Institute of Theoretical Physics and former head of the PKU School of Physics, passed away in Beijing at the age of 95 on November 18 due to illness.

Prof. Zhao's academic journey began when he enrolled at the PKU School of Physics in 1946, and his commitment to teaching continued after his graduation in 1950. Prof. Zhao’s innovative teaching methods and profound theoretical insights have significantly shaped the field. His collaborative efforts in authoring acclaimed physics textbooks and spearheading transformative teaching initiatives have garnered recognition and praise.

Over his remarkable career spanning over seven decades, Prof. Zhao earned numerous accolades for his outstanding contributions to physics education, and was honored with the ICPE Medal. Being one of the pioneers, he led the initiative for China's participation in the International Physics Olympiad.

As a luminary in the realm of physics education, Prof. Zhao's enduring impact on physics education within China and abroad will continue to inspire future generations. His passing is a significant loss to PKU, the Chinese physics community, and the field of physics education in China.
