Peking University, July 9, 2026: From June 29 to July 4, the inaugural World Young Sinologists Summer Institute was held at Peking University (PKU), with the aim of cultivating a new generation of sinologists equipped with both strong academic training and a global, cross-cultural perspective. The event was jointly organized by the Peking University’s One Thousand Books in One Century Academic Classics Translation Project and Yenching Academy.

At the opening ceremony, Vice President Chu Xiaobo delivered the welcome address. Other speakers included Chen Pingyuan, a professor of Chinese Language and Literature at PKU; Imre Galambos, a Qiushi chair professor at Zhejiang University and professor emeritus at the University of Cambridge; and Nadine Bregler, a doctoral researcher in Sinology at the University of Hamburg.

Throughout the week, 10 distinguished scholars from China and abroad delivered lectures on topics including the humanities in the age of artificial intelligence, the history of the Song dynasty bureaucracy, and the translation and global dissemination of Tang poetry. They engaged in in-depth discussions with 30 young sinologists from around the world. The program also featured thematic workshops, academic forums, and cultural visits to sites such as the Palace Museum and the Peking University History Museum.

At the closing ceremony, Jiang Guohua, vice chair of PKU Council, attended the event and presented certificates of completion to all participants.

This summer camp served as an international platform for academic exchange among emerging sinologists, fostering cross-cultural dialogue and promoting the development of Sinology worldwide.
