PKU wins its 5th champion in Chinese National Round for the Jessup Competition

Peking University, March 6, 2018: The Sixteenth Chinese National Round for Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition was held at Renmin University of China between 24 and 26 February. Peking University won the champion for the fifth time.


The certificate

Members of PKU Jessup Team include Li Jiayi, Li Xiaolan, Huang Qihao, Sun Yixian and Shen Yiming with Zhang Jisen as the coach. The team received guidance from teachers of the PKU School of Law and strong support of the alumni. In a highly-charged atmosphere, PKU Team won eight competitions consecutively and finally claimed the champion. During the competition, the team members showed both high literacy in international law and understanding of topical global issues. They also demonstrated excellent English skills, courtroom techniques and unique personal style which won the unanimous appreciation of judges. Li Xiaolan was named as the “Best Oralist” and PKU Team won the “Best Memorial Award”.
 
 


PKU Jessup Team

All members have been devoted to the preparation since the team was formed in last June. They have read a large number of works in English, reviewed scores of classic cases, conducted meticulous research and intense discussions, and has written and modified the English memorial many times. Besides, they received rigorous training during the winter vacation.

Sponsored by the International Federation of Students and Law (ILSA), Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is a professional legal debate hailed as the “Olympics in international jurisprudence”. The competition enjoys a history of more than 50 years since it was first held in 1959. More than 900 universities from over 100 countries participate in the competition every year. It remains the largest and longest-running moot court competition in the world. Peking University has previously won the champion in the Chinese National Round in 2006, 2012, 2015, and 2016 respectively.
