Han Qide elected vice chairman of CPPCC National Committee

Peking University, Mar. 11, 2013:  A senior medical scientist at PKU was elected vice chairman of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

 

Professor Han Qide, 68, president of the PKU Health Science Center (PUHSC), was elected to the post on March 11 at the fourth meeting of the top advisory body's first session.

Professor Han, also member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, has since 1982 worked at PUHSC, then named Beijing Medical College.

 

Han was born in Cixi, east China’s Zhejiang Province. He graduated from the Shanghai No. 1 Medical College in 1968, specialized in pathophysiology. Between 1979 and 1982, he continued his study at Xi'an Medical College and obtained a master's degree, according to Xinhua.

 

Han served executive vice president of PKU, dean of the PKU Graduate School, president of PUHSC, director of the Biomedical Interdisciplinary Research Center, and director of the Cardiovascular Sciences Institute from 2000.

 

In 2003, Han was elected vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the 10th National People’s Congress (NPC), China’s top legislature, and was re-elected in 2008.

 

In 2005, Han was appointed dean of the newly established PKU Academy for Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies, a platform for research in multidisciplinary fields.

 

Han also serves chairman of the 13th Central Committee of Jiu San Society, chairman of the China Association for Science and Technology, president of Western Returned Scholars Association - Chinese Overseas Educated Scholars Association, president of International Society for Pathophysiology, council member of the International Society for Heart Research and concurrent chairman of its China Branch, member of nomination committee of International Pharmaceutical Federation, council member of International Molecular and Cellular Cardiac Society.

 

Han was recommended as member of the 12th CPPCC National Committee earlier this year in his capacity as Jiu San Society chairman. Founded on May 4, 1946, the party adopted the name Jiu San Society ("Jiu San" means September 3 in Chinese) in commemoration of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and in the world anti-fascist war on September 3, 1945.

 

Professor Han’s research area is cardiovascular neuropeptide, including investigations on the impact of neuropeptide on cardiovascular system and related pathophysiological research.

 

Professor Han has published over 200 academic papers, including 40 plus on key international journals.
